A suspect that allegedly assaulted a West Hoke Elementary School teacher has been captured Thursday.

Michael Lee Nivens, 34, from the 100 block of Piney Grove, Raeford, is currently at Hoke County Detention Center and is charged with attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.  Nivens is under a $2 million-plus secured bond.

Nivens was arrested in Robeson County.

Capt. John Kivett said the suspect allegedly walked into the school about 5:45 pm on Monday and hit an unidentified teacher in the head, face, and hands with what they believe was a metal object.  The victim was transported to the hospital.

The students that were in after-school daycare were in another part of the building.

Nivens is facing additional charges that stem from a sexual assault and multiple break-ins and thefts from Churches around Hoke County that includes Community United Methodist Church, Truth and Faith Pentecostal Church of Deliverance, Shiloh Presbyterian Church, and Helping Hands Worship Center.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said she remained in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville on Wednesday night. Schools spokeswoman Jodie Bryant said the teacher is recovering well.

It is unclear if Nivens has a lawyer.
