Teen arrested on weapon charges

Authorities arrested an 18-year-old Aberdeen man last week on weapons charges.

Southern Pines Deputy Chief of Police Charles Campbell announced in a statement Wednesday that Michael McLaurin was arrested on several charges.

McLaurin was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana.

“This arrest stems from a traffic stop conducted by members of the Southern Pines Police Department’s Directed Patrol unit on January 29, 2021,” said Campbell.

Information from the Moore County Detention Center also lists charges of two counts of felony probation violation.

McLaurin is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
