The Sunday Scoop: Our Saviour Lutheran Church

The Sunday Scoop is a series on churches in Moore County. The series covers the latest activities from Bible school to missions and everything in between. Welcome.

Pastor Frank Waugh has been the pastor at Our Saviour Lutheran Church since January and is a North Carolina native. He was previously serving in Granite Falls, N.C.

The new pastor said he likes being called Pastor Frank, and one of his goals for the church is to use his passion for outreach and military families to grow the church.

“The purpose of the church is to reform and center on the three fundamental Lutheran solas, by grace alone, by faith alone, and by word alone,” Waugh said. “The solas are about daily renewing our relationships with God now through eternity.”

Sola scriptura is a term naming the Bible as the single, truthful source for Christianity, acknowledging scripture’s authority not in words only but through redemption through the Word of God, Jesus Christ, the Redeemer.

The 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service is a blend of liturgical worship, meaning traditional methods based on Lutheran reformation, with contemporary music and traditional hymns, and weekly Holy Communion.

The sanctuary choir includes an organ, piano, drums, and guitar.

“We seek to provide inclusive music from a variety of styles, including chanting,” Waugh said.

Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m. for all ages, and, like services, is also offered online.

“We will initiate fully embracing the digital church and in person,” Waugh said and added that Roku TV and phone apps are in the plans.

Pastor Frank Waugh of Our Saviour Lutheran Church welcomes everyone Feb. 3, 2022.

Summer Bible school is in July or August and is open to the public.

Our Saviour Lutheran Churchs website has a calendar listing service opportunities and group support.

Waugh said he preaches entire books of the Bible in relation to the different seasons of the church year.

Lutherans believe in the second coming of Christ, and He will return once and will bring Christians together with the dead in Christ.

Waugh is interested in working with community leaders and groups currently assisting veterans to establish a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) support ministry and welcomes them to contact him at [email protected] or 910-692-2662.

Waugh wants to welcome and support not only veterans with PTSD but active military and displaced families.

“Our Saviour Lutheran Church is an all-inclusive church and welcomes everyone,” Waugh said.
