Third Moore County resident to win lottery in a month

Three people who live in Moore County have each won the lottery in less than a month’s time.

The latest to win is Brian Marks.

Marks, of Cameron, took a chance on a Powerball ticket and won a $100,000 prize.

Marks’ $3 Power Play ticket matched numbers on four white balls and the Powerball in the Aug. 3 drawing to win $50,000. His prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier hit. The chances of that match are 1 in 913,129.

Marks purchased his ticket from Gold Star on Lobelia Road in Vass. He claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,011.

Cassandra Bandy, of Carthage, took a chance on a $20 scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 prize.

Bandy bought her lucky 100X The Cash ticket from the Exprezit on U.S. 1 in Vass.

She arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect her prize.

Edward Gosselin, of West End, bought a $3 Quick Pick ticket using Online Play on the lottery’s website. It matched numbers on four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 in the July 18 drawing. The prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X Power Play multiplier hit.

Gosselin claimed his prize and took home $106,516. Gosselin said he and his wife will celebrate their big win with a vacation to the Midwest.
