Three-car crash blocks traffic in Southern Pines

A three-car wreck brought traffic to a halt on Thursday afternoon just outside of downtown Southern Pines. Roads were closed for nearly thirty minutes while authorities worked to disentangle the vehicles.

The wreck occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, and involved a Jeep Wrangler, Honda HR-V, and Toyota sedan.

The Toyota sedan and Jeep Sport collided at the intersection of N May Street and E Maine Street. The Honda HR-V was not left with enough time to avoid the collision and veered off of the road and into a telephone pole in an attempt to dodge the wreckage.

The driver of the Honda did not sustain any serious injuries, declined medical treatment, and remained on-scene. She was the only passenger in her vehicle. The driver of the Jeep remained on-scene as well. It is unclear whether any others involved in the wreck were transported to the hospital at this time.

Traffic was temporarily blocked off at E Vermont Street while the three vehicles were moved from the road, and debris from the wreckage was cleaned up.

The Southern Pines police and fire departments were on the scene, along with Moore County EMS. Three towing companies arrived to move the vehicles, including Rockwell Towing.
