An 18-year-old man from Laurinburg was arrested on drug and gun charges during a traffic stop on March 6. The Aberdeen Police Department announced the charges against Isaiah Giles on March 12.
Officers conducted a traffic stop for expired registration. The name of the road where the vehicle was pulled over was not provided.
“After approaching the vehicle, the officers identified Giles and a passenger inside the vehicle,” said Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis in a media release. “Officers quickly developed probable cause to search the vehicle, and located an AR-15 long gun concealed in the vehicle during the search. Upon further search of the vehicle, various drug paraphernalia was located throughout, as well as a bag containing a white powder-like substance, consistent with narcotics.
“Upon further search of the vehicle, various drug paraphernalia was located throughout, as well as a bag containing a white powder-like substance, consistent with narcotics. The items were seized, and Giles was placed under arrest. Upon a search incident to arrest, a bag containing white crushed pills was located on his person; Giles confirmed that substance to be Ecstasy.”
Giles is facing charges of felony possession of Schedule I controlled substance and concealed handgun permit violation. He was taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he was given a $2,500 secured bond.
