Two drivers killed in head-on crash in Cameron

A head-on crash claimed the lives of two people from Sanford Friday.

The collision happened in Cameron around 7 p.m. on N.C. Highway 24-27 just east of Glenwood Farms Road.

According to an official with N.C. State Highway Patrol, a Nissan Altima was traveling east at the speed limit when it allegedly crossed left of the center line and hit a Ford Escape traveling west at the speed limit. 

The driver of the Nissan, Lisa Thomas, 56, and the driver of the Ford, Marcos Malconado, 41, died at the scene.

The juvenile passenger of the Ford Escape was transported to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and has since been released.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged, and debris was scattered over an extensive area around the scene.

Responding to the accident were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department as a second rescue unit, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
