Two drivers airlifted after crash

Four people, including a child, are hospitalized after a head-on crash near Union Pines High School. The incident took place on Friday afternoon on Farm Life School Road between Union Church Road and Joel Road in Carthage.

According to troopers, the crash happened when a Jeep Wrangler crossed the centerline and into the lane of an oncoming Ford Explorer. It appears neither driver applied their brakes before the collision.

Both male drivers sustained serious injuries and were airlifted by UNC Air Care for treatment from a landing zone set up at Union Pines High School. The other two passengers in the Explorer, an adult female and a child, were taken by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Troopers say the driver of the Jeep could be facing charges including driving left of center.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Carthage Police Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, UNC Air Care, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
