Southeast Tourism Society (STS) has named the Cameron Antique Festival and the Carthage Buggy Festival as two of the STS Top 20 Events for the month of May.
The Cameron Antique Festival will be held the weekend of May 3-4, 2019 and the Carthage Buggy Festival takes place on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The STS Top 20 Festival and Events Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985.
The Cameron Antique Festival welcomes an estimated 15,000 antique shoppers to town annually as more than 300 antique dealers from North Carolina and surrounding states flock to the Moore County town for the weekend fair. Dealers offer anything from furniture to jewelry, cast iron items to textiles, glassware and kitchen collectibles.
Started in 1989, the Carthage Buggy Festival is a celebration of the rich history of the town and commemorates the famous Tyson and Jones Buggy Factory which produced carriages that were essential to life in rural North Carolina from the middle of the 19th century to the 1920s. The event attracts approximately 20,000 people and is one of the most popular festivals in the Sandhills region.
“To have one of your events named to the Southeast Tourism Society is special, but to have two selected in one month is truly remarkable,” says Phil Werz, president and CEO of the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “These events are not only fun, historic and interesting, but also are part of the special character and way of life of our unique location in the Sandhills. We invite everyone to visit, stay and enjoy the true charm and Southern hospitality these events generate.”
