Vass distribution warehouse saved from total destruction

At 4:37 a.m. Wednesday, fire and rescue teams were called to respond to a structure fire at 340 Seaboard Street in Vass.

Cypress Pointe Fire Chief Mike Cameron said a firewall and quick response saved the distribution warehouse from total destruction.

The property belongs to Wallace Wilson of Carolina Crate and Pallet, Inc.

No employees were at the warehouse at the time of the fire, according to Cameron.

Fire departments and emergency services from Cypress Pointe, Crains Creek, Southern Pines, Carthage, Aberdeen, Seven Lakes, and Whispering Pines responded.

The two on-sight fire hydrants were supplemented with drop tanks. Tankers hauled in water, and it was pumped into the fire trucks.

The state fire marshal was on the scene investigating.
