A man from Vass was sentenced to prison for second-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to a news release from Moore County District Attorney Mike Hardin. Dallas Walters plead guilty in Moore County Superior Court to the charges on Oct. 25 and was sentenced to 13.83 to 17.66 years in prison.
According to a news release from Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields two years ago, Walters, 50, was arrested in June of 2019 in connection to the murder of his roommate. Rex Watson’s body was discovered by deputies at his Vass home on Rollins Road after they “received a tip from an out of state law enforcement agency that a crime had taken place there.”
Hours later, Walters was arrested by officers in Bexar County, Texas after a warrant for murder was obtained by Moore County detectives. Watson was 57 years old when he was murdered. In the news advisory, authorities did not release the cause of death, or when they believed the murder happened.
Hardin said the district attorney’s office “has been working diligently with law enforcement agencies to prosecute backlogged cases that have been in custody for lengthy periods of time. This case was able to be closed based on the dedicated and thorough work of the officers working on this case.”
