Vass paratrooper receives Bronze Star Medal

A Fort Bragg soldier from Vass was honored Friday with the Bronze Star Medal. Another Fort Bragg paratrooper was awarded the Army Commendation Medal at the valor award ceremony hosted by the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.

“Sgt. Hunter Burns was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with V Device and Spc. Alexander Pedockie was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with V Device for exceptionally valorous achievement while deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel,” announced the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of 82nd Airborne Division on social media. “Burns and Pedockie ability to quickly react to an enemy threat and treat critically wounded Soldiers saved the lives of numerous U.S. and Afghan personnel. Both displayed fearless heroism befitting of a U.S. Army Paratrooper.”

Burns, 23, graduated from Pinecrest High School in 2016.

He joined the Army at 18 and was at Ft. Benning, GA for basic training and airborne school. Burns deployed to Afghanistan in July of 2019.

He and his wife, Audrey, will be moving to Ft. Benning in April where Burns will be a drill instructor.
