Wake County suspects crash in Moore County

Three suspects driving a stolen car used in a Wake County robbery of a business were chased by Lee County Police and apprehended off U.S. Highway 1 at approximately 9 a.m. Monday. The car they were driving wrecked three miles from the Cameron exit.

Moore County law enforcement assisted at the crash scene along with Moore County EMS and Cypress Pointe Fire Department.

Major Vincent Frazer with the Sanford Police Department told Sandhills Sentinel in an email that all three suspects were arrested at the scene.

“The Sanford Police Department received a BOLO (be on the lookout for) from Raleigh Police Dept. for a stolen vehicle which was used in a robbery,” said Major Vincent Frazer with the Sanford Police Department. “The description of the vehicle given was a white BMW. Sanford Police Department officers located the vehicle at McDonalds, located at 1909 Pendergrass Rd, Sanford. Officers approached the vehicle in the parking lot of McDonalds. The vehicle was occupied by three male subjects.

“The driver of the vehicle refused to obey officers’ commands and fled from the parking lot driving the stolen BMW. A vehicle chase ensued down highway US 1 into Moore County where the suspects driving the stolen BMW struck a guardrail and was involved in an accident.”

The BMW wrecked next to a fence in a wooded area with a pond.

A law enforcement person recovered a pair of wet jeans. One suspect placed in the front passenger seat was visibly shivering while waiting for EMS assistance.

EMS checked suspects for exposure to the elements.

The driver, Carlton McCall, of Spring Lake, was charged with felony assault on law enforcement officer, felony speeding to elude arrest and possession of stolen motor vehicle. McCall was turned over to the Harnett County Sherriff’s Office for outstanding warrants for attempted first degree murder.

Passenger, Jose Angel-Cano, of Cameron, was charged on a citation for resisting arrest. Angel-Cano was turned over to Raleigh Police Department.

Passenger, Payton Brewington of Cameron, was charged on a citation with resisting arrest. Brewington was turned over to Raleigh Police Department.
