10th annual Mums for Memory™ fundraiser - Oct. 9

The 10th annual Mums for Memory™ Moore County fundraiser—“Be a Friend to Someone with Dementia 2025”—will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9. This fundraiser is the primary funding source for AOS & Friends Care, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing support and resources to individuals and families affected by dementia.

Mums for Memory™ offers the community a meaningful way to donate and support services for those living with dementia. Each donation includes a vibrant purple mum, the official color of Alzheimer’s awareness, which may be dedicated in “honor” or “memory” of someone impacted by dementia—be it a friend, caregiver, or loved one.

The number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia continues to grow. Supporters of the fundraiser are invited to be a “friend to someone with dementia” by helping to fund resources that remain local and directly benefit the community.

AOS & Friends Care was founded by Amy Natt, an Aging Life Care Professional™, and John Barrett, a family advocate, in response to a growing community need. The nonprofit supports older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and families in navigating the challenges of aging and memory loss. Board members include John Barrett, Mia Lorenz, Amy Natt, Sam Smith, Dana Quick, and Anessa Mercer.

The organization was inspired by Barrett’s wife, Mary Anne, who, even after a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s, continued to ask, “What can I do to help?” That legacy lives on through the nonprofit’s mission.

AOS & Friends Care provides a variety of free services, including direct care grants for home care and care management, personalized music players, companion pets, and dementia resources and education. More than 150 individuals and families—as well as 20 care facilities—have benefited from the program to date.

This year’s mums will be available for curbside pickup on Oct. 9 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Aging Outreach Services offices or may be donated to a local care facility.

Each $30 donation includes a mum, and all dedications and sponsorships will be recognized in the event program. Proceeds support services such as grants, music players, and companion pets.
