4-vehicle accident on Hwy 1 impedes traffic

A four-vehicle accident on Highway 1 impeded traffic in Aberdeen. The accident occurred near Texas Roadhouse on Thursday afternoon.

The driver of one of the cars suffered injuries. She was initially trapped in her vehicle as the door was buckled shut; however, after Aberdeen firefighters were able to get to her, they stabilized her and her neck with a c-collar.

Immediately following the crash, she had started to shake and convulse which made the extraction all the more important to rescue personnel. She was extracted via a spinal board and into the waiting ambulance with multiple visible bruises and cuts. Her car was an early model Oldsmobile with no airbags and door-mounted seatbelts which furthered the injuries.

Traffic on Highway 1 northbound sustained delays for an hour with one lane closed to through traffic.

Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, Aberdeen Police Department and Moore County EMS responded to the scene.
