Aberdeen Police Chief Carl Colasacco presented the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate to Sergeant Chris Davis and Lieutenant Brian Chavis at Monday’s meeting of the Aberdeen Town Council.
The Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate is the highest professional certification that an officer can achieve in North Carolina. The program requires extensive classroom training along with experience as an active law enforcement officer.
Chief Colasacco also introduced new Police Officer Rashad Gatling to the board. Gatling is still waiting on some paperwork, but he took part in the Third Annual L.E.O. Lift Off Competition & Fundraiser held at Anytime Fitness Saturday.
Gatling had this year’s heaviest lift with a single repetition deadlift of 585 pounds. According to Chief Colasacco, he brought in “a ringer.” Aberdeen Mayor Robbie Farrell said, “Just another reason not to mess with the Aberdeen Police Department.”

In other business, Cpl. Johnny “Ralph” Holder’s family presented a request to the board to recommend to the North Carolina Department of Transportation to name a bridge in his honor. Holder was the first Moore County citizen lost in the line of duty during the Korean War. The council approved the motion without dissent.
The next meeting of the Aberdeen Commissioners is for a work session at 6 p.m. on October 14.
