A multi-vehicle wreck downed power lines, stopped Aberdeen traffic, and left over 1,000 residents without power on Tuesday.
The crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Highway 211 at Pleasant Street and Finley Way. A Nissan Armada veered from the road, barreled into the tree line, and struck a power pole. The impact was so intense that the pole snapped, and multiple lines were brought down. Two people were taken to the hospital.
The Armada and a silver sedan suffered extensive damage and had to be removed with winches by tow trucks.
Power outages were reported in Aberdeen. Around 5:45 p.m., Duke Energy reported over 1,000 outages in the immediate area surrounding the crash scene.
The scene took over an hour to clear, resulting in a portion of road closure.
First responders with Aberdeen Fire and Rescue dragged large pieces of the vehicles out of the highway and cleaned up shattered glass. Rockwell Towing arrived to remove the Armada, and Duke Energy arrived to assess the damage and began making repairs.
