Accident shuts down Hwy 24-27 in Cameron

A two-vehicle accident occurred in Cameron on Highway 24-27 at the U.S. 1 overpass Wednesday afternoon.

A Honda sedan and a log truck were involved in the accident in front of the Skymart gas station. There was minimal damage to the log truck, but the car suffered heavy front-end damage. 

There were two adults and a juvenile traveling in the Honda. The child and one adult occupant were evaluated on the scene and released.

The other adult was transported to Moore Regional Hospital. The patient’s condition is unknown at this time, but it is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the log truck had no injuries. 

Highway 24-27 was shut down from the U.S. 1 bypass to Bass Road for about 45 minutes while the accident was being investigated. Then one lane was open for some time. 

The exact cause is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
