Car flips in West End crash

Wet road conditions may have contributed to a crash Saturday morning near Eastwood community in West End.

First responders were called to the 700 block of Doubs Chapel Road for a crash involving an overturned vehicle.

Witnesses tell Sandhills Sentinel that the male driver of a Toyota Corolla was attempting to pass another vehicle. The car then veered off the left side of the road striking several trees before coming to rest upside down. The man inside the vehicle was pulled from the car, according to those witnesses.

Firefighters say the driver sustained several injuries in the crash but was alert when they arrived. He was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital by Moore County EMS for treatment.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. According to troopers, the man was speeding, and that poor tire conditions along with the wet roads could have been a factor in the crash.

Both directions of Doubs Chapel Road were shut down for about an hour while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Responding to the crash were Eastwood Fire Department, Carthage Fire and Rescue, Pinehurst Fire and Rescue, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County EMS, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
