The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at a home in the 300 block of Longleaf Drive in the Seven Lakes West community in West End. The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
First responders performed CPR on Rachel Loken, who was shot in the chest, but she died on the scene.Â
“According to initial findings, Rachel Loken was in another room when she was struck by a gunshot fired by her husband, Christopher Loken,” said Chief Deputy Andy Conway with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. “While the shooting was reported as accidental, investigators are examining all aspects of the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.”
A family member who set up a GoFundMe page in the following days stated Rachel Loken was a “decorated soldier who honorably served our country for over 15+ years.”
The fundraiser page said Chris Loken recently retired from the military and is a West End Fire Department volunteer firefighter.
“This tragic incident involved the family of one of our active Volunteer members,” said West End Fire and Rescue Fire Chief Erik Stromberg on the department’s Facebook page about the Loken family. “We ask that you keep the family involved as well as the responders and our entire department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
