Driver airlifted after striking tree in Cameron

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, one person was airlifted after their car veered from the road and collided with a tree in Cameron. The crash occurred on Highway 24/27 near its intersection with Blackburn Road.

The car had been travelling west towards U.S. 1 before deviating from the road and striking a tree. As a result of the wreck, the driver of the Hyundai Accent, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained traumatic injuries, and air care was requested.

A landing zone was established in the lot adjacent to the nearby Cameron Sky Mart. The patient was transported to the landing zone via Moore County EMS before being flown by UNC Carolina Air Care.

According to authorities on the scene, the cause of the crash is currently still under investigation at this time.
