Multiple departments in Moore County battled a large storage shed fire in Carthage early Wednesday morning. The blaze broke out shortly before 3 a.m. behind a home in the 600 block of Union Church Road just east of Stage Road.
The first fire engine on the scene reported a fully involved storage shed. Multiple items, including a lawn mower, ATV, and propane tank, were reported to be stored within the structure. Crews had to work quickly and carefully due to a possible explosion hazard.
Though crews worked hard to battle the blaze, the shed was ultimately a total loss. Fire departments remained on scene for an extended period of time while checking for hot spots.
Union Church Road was brought down to one lane of travel to allow the crews to work safely. Moore County Public Safety was on scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
Responding units included the Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and Moore County Public Safety.
