Chief Bob Temme offered the following statement after the second arrest phase of “Operation Leader”, “The first goal of the Southern Pines Police Department is to save lives, not incarcerate them. However, crime prevention by incarceration has an appealing directness when dealing with organized street gangs poisoning our community with illegal drugs. The incarceration of criminally active individuals for extensive periods of time will prevent crime through their physical separation from the rest of society.”

These recent arrests/charges represent only the second phase of a multi-tiered action plan. Additional arrests and other comprehensive police activities are anticipated and will take place at the appropriate time in this wide-ranging investigation.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
