“Sheriff Ronnie Fields announces that on October 14, 2024, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of larceny of political campaign signs along Highway 24/27 in Carthage, NC,” said a news release from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. “Investigators analyzed video footage provided by the owner of the signs and identified James Wesley Greenfield Jr., age 64, of Harnett County, as the individual responsible for taking them.”

Greenfield was arrested the next day on charges of two counts of misdemeanor larceny of political signs. He was released under a written promise to appear in Moore County district court on Nov. 14.

“Sheriff Ronnie Fields reminds the public that the removal or theft of lawfully placed campaign signs is a violation of North Carolina General Statute § 136-32(e),” said the release. “These laws are enforced impartially, regardless of political affiliation, to ensure fairness during election periods. Sheriff Fields emphasizes that the Moore County Sheriff’s Office will continue to uphold the law in all such cases.”
