Pinecrest High School was placed on a “modified” lockdown on Tuesday after a gun was found in a student’s backpack.
“A handgun was found in a student’s backpack by a staff member,” said Catherine Nagy, the school district’s director of communication. “The school was placed on a modified/soft lockdown while MCS police and administration investigated in order to confirm that this was an isolated incident. There are currently no indications that the student intended to do mass harm with the weapon. The student will not be returning to school property pending the completion of the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, appropriate disciplinary action will be determined and implemented. There will be increased police presence at Pinecrest High school for the remainder of today and tomorrow.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
