Intoxicated driver ejected after rollover in Eastwood

A severe crash in the Eastwood community Friday evening left a man facing several charges, including DWI, and sent him to the hospital after he was ejected from the vehicle. The single-vehicle crash happened on Lea Road at the intersection with Esther Road just before 5 p.m.

The first emergency unit arrived on scene to a Chevrolet Camaro convertible upside down on the shoulder of the road with the male driver ejected.

According to officials, the vehicle was traveling south towards U.S. Highway 15-501 when it ran off the right shoulder of the road in a curve, struck a concrete drainage cover and embankment, and rolled over before coming to a stop upside down.

Air care was initially called but canceled a short time later, and the man was transported to Moore Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

A short section of Lea Road was shut down while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed. North Carolina State Highway Patrol was on scene and investigating the crash.

Responding units were the Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
