Double homicide investigation underway

A double homicide investigation is underway after an elderly couple was found deceased in their home Friday. The home is located in the area of 1900 Roseland Road near Aberdeen.

The call came into the 911 center at 5:57 p.m. for a welfare check on the married couple.

When Moore County sheriff deputies arrived on the scene, they found D.P. Black, 91, and his wife, Mary Lou, 86, deceased.

Numerous law enforcement officials were at the residence, and detectives could be seen taking notes and examining various areas of the yard.

The front of the home, near the road, was cordoned off with crime scene tape.

Sheriff Ronnie Fields, along with Chief Deputy Richard Maness, could be seen speaking with detectives in the driveway of the residence.

Maness confirmed to Sandhills Sentinel that a homicide investigation is underway at this time.

The sheriff’s department is offering a $2,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Moore County Sheriff’s Office’s tip line at 910-947-4444.
