Man airlifted after dirt bike, ATV collide in Cameron

A collision between a dirt bike and an ATV in Cameron left a young man seriously injured. The crash happened Saturday afternoon just after 4 p.m. in the 300 block of Heavenwood Road in the Carolina Lakes subdivision off Lamms Grove Road.

Two men were riding in the private community when they met head-on in a curve on the dirt road.

According to officials on the scene, one male was traveling east toward Carolina Lakes Road when he came around a curve and met the other traveling west on the same side of the road. He attempted to swerve to miss him, but they collided nearly head-on.

The man traveling east was not injured, but the man traveling west was seriously injured.

Due to the extent of his injuries, a landing zone was set up at the ball field next to Cameron Elementary School, and he was airlifted to a trauma center.

Highway Patrol responded to the scene, but due to being in a private community, the investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office, which was already on the scene and had been investigating.

Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and NC Highway Patrol.
