Emergency crews responded to Youngs Road Sunday morning just outside of Southern Pines to reports of a pickup truck overturned. Upon arrival, they found a Chevrolet pickup on its side with a man and three dogs still inside the vehicle. A German Shepherd was actually sitting on top of the gentleman.

Firefighters cut away the windshield to gain access and free the man and his dogs. The gentleman was evaluated at the scene and chose not to be transported to the hospital. The dogs were uninjured and place in the firetruck until the victim’s wife could arrive at the scene and take them.

Reportedly, the victim was driving with his dogs when suddenly the German Shepherd jumped onto his lap hitting the steering wheel and causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

One lane of Youngs Road was blocked off until the roadway could be cleared.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC Highway Patrol.
