Man charged with DWI after crashing into creek

A man was unscathed after crashing his truck into a creek near Lakeview Wednesday evening. The single-vehicle accident occurred in the 1100 block of Camp Easter Road.

Emergency units were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. and arrived to find a GMC Sierra off the road and in a creek. The vehicle was traveling south and ran off the road at a bridge, crashing through a guardrail and coming to a stop after plunging into the creek below, according to officials.

The driver was the only occupant and was out of the truck when units arrived. The man was given a field sobriety test and was arrested on a charge of driving while impaired.

One lane of Camp Easter Road was shut down for over an hour while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.

N.C. State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Whispering Pines Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
