Man charged with assault by strangulation, assault on female, resisting officer

A 22-year-old Carthage man was arrested on three charges related to a domestic assault incident, according to Southern Pines Police Department.

Jacob Pickard was arrested after Southern Pines Police responded to the 400 block of North May Street on March 17 to a domestic situation.

“The investigation revealed that Jacob Wade Pickard was involved in a domestic assault where he had strangled his victim causing injury,” said Southern Pines Police Department in a news advisory. “During his arrest, Pickard was physically aggressive with officers attempting to place him under arrest.”

The suspect was charged with assault by strangulation, assault on a female, and resisting a public officer.

Information from the Moore County Detention Center reveals Pickard was placed under a $25,000 bond.

“Jacob Wade Pickard, after arrest, appeared before a Moore County Magistrate where he was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center for 48 hours pending a hearing in Moore County Court on April 4, 2022,” said the news advisory.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
