Man charged with fraud stemming from Whispering Pines construction project

The Whispering Pines Police Department said a man from Lillington was arrested on June 17 for fraud and embezzlement.

Tracy Byrd was charged with three counts of felony obtain property by false pretense, two counts of felony embezzlement, and one count misdemeanor fail to work after paid.

“Between August and November of 2020, Byrd was employed with a construction company out of Durham which were conducting reconstruction work at a residence in Whispering Pines,” said Whispering Pines Police Lieutenant Rodney Dozier in a news release. “During that time, Byrd was the project manager, and in that capacity defrauded the company and client out of $10, 871.”

Harnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested Byrd. His bond was set at $7,500 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
