Beginning June 1 through Aug. 31, Manchester Road, from Morganton Road to Morrison Bridge Road, will be closed for a full-depth reclamation project. The entire roadbed will be reconstructed.
The project is expected to affect drivers traveling from Moore County to Fort Bragg. Military access will be maintained, but general traffic will need to seek alternate routes.
“This project is designed to significantly improve road conditions, ensuring a smoother, safer and less chaotic drive for years to come,” said Fort Bragg in a news advisory. “With the closure on the horizon, now is the perfect time to start seeking alternate routes. And while motorists will naturally disperse, here are a few potential options to consider.”
If you are coming from Moore County:
Alternate Southern Routes:
• Morganton Rd. to King Rd. to Plank Rd.
• NC 211 to King Rd. to Plank Rd.
Alternate Northern Routes:
• U.S. 1 to N.C. 690 to Morrison Bridge Rd. to Manchester Rd.
• U.S. 1 to N.C. 24/27 to N.C. 87.
“We’ve partnered with the North Carolina Department of Transportation with an Intergovernmental Service Agreement (IGSA),” said Fort Bragg. The NCDOT has the technical expertise for design, construction, and contracting to take our projects from an idea through design to construction. Using the NCDOT, we’ve seen about 40-60% cost savings. This means more road repairs, faster. As construction progresses, additional guidance may be provided to help ensure a seamless transition for local commuters.”
