Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills (MOWS) announced a major step toward raising the quality and personalization of home-delivered meals by collaborating with TRIO Community Meals. This new partnership will also enable MOWS to quickly scale its efforts to increase the number of home-delivered meal recipients and routes within Moore County. MOWS will start delivering the new meals on July 22.
“Partnering with TRIO enables our organization to serve a greater number of people in need while offering a quality, freshly prepared meal that meets nutritional needs of our over 90 homebound residents we currently serve daily,” says Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills Executive Director, Penny S. Jeffrey, PhD. “With TRIO’s support, we can also offer medically-tailored meals for clients that are diabetic, renal, or have other nutrition-related chronic diseases. All meals are created by a group of nutrition professionals who include registered dietitians, nutritionists, and chefs. Additionally, with a recently funded grant for Project DASH, we will be able to quickly implement new routes to reach the over 30 individuals on our waitlist while we continue to search for delivery volunteers. We’ve been providing meals to older adults in Moore County, NC, for 50 years, and we feel this partnership is an important move to position Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills to effectively serve for another 50+ years.”
TRIO Community Meals is the country’s largest senior nutrition meal vendor, with over 60 years of experience serving the growing food-insecure population and isolated adults in our communities.
