The Moore County School Board is back to full strength after the swearing-in of John Nelson Weaver to fill the District 5 seat left vacant by the death of Bruce Cunningham.
Superior Court Clerk Susan Hicks administered the oath of office at the School Board Work Session Tuesday evening.
Weaver has 44 years of experience working in the electrical utility industry. According to the application he submitted to the board of education “he has considerable experience in managing and providing leadership to professional, administrivia and craft employees, preparing and managing both operating budgets and daily operations to drive results and achieve specific goals. He understands the role of the School Board to “provide a safe, quality learning environment which provides each and every student in Moore County to be successful and achieve their full potential.”
Weaver sees the board as providing overall leadership in developing policy, managing staff, and setting the tone for education in Moore County.
He graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1973 with a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering. He served on the Town of Southern Pines Planning Board and was chairman of the board in 1996. He also served on the board of the Moore County United Way and the Moore County Hazardous Materials Planning Committee for 16 years.
His appointment to the board runs through 2020 at which time he will have to run for re-election.
