Around 4 p.m. Sunday, authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Tarry Church Road and Highway 24/27, about 8 miles outside of Westmoore.Â
A Kia Soul appeared to be heading West on 24/27 when the two cars collided causing the Kia to flip over on its roof. The driver had to be pulled out by first responders.
The driver of the Kia was transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Nissan Versa had three people in the car. The driver and her six-year-old son were airlifted separately by UNC Air Care to UNC Trauma Center.
The mother suffered severe injuries, and the child had non-life threatening injuries. The third passenger was transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital, and their condition is unknown at this time.
The cause of the accident is under investigation with the State Highway Patrol.
This is the third major accident within a 4 mile stretch of 24/27 in less than a week Sandhills Sentinel has reported.
Responding to the accident were Westmoore Fire and Rescue, Robbins Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, UNC Air Care from Silver City and Aberdeen, Moore County Sheriffs Department, and State Highway Patrol.
