Harry Meeth III, 83, of Pinehurst, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
He was born on July 19, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to the late Harry Meeth, Jr. and Anna May Podlick Meeth. A visitation will be held Monday, September 25, 2023 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 300 Dundee Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Harry is survived by his children Dave Meeth (Joni), LuAnn Vergolini, Scott Meeth (Suzo) and Kelly Meeth Bennardo (John); grandchildren Jake Meeth, Eley Meeth, Catie Meeth, Derrick Vergolini, Shelby Vergolini, Emily Vergolini; and their father Jeff Vergolini.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Anne Broderick Meeth, and by both of his siblings, Jane (Connor) and Anna Mae (French).
Harry graduated from West Point in 1962 in Civil Engineering; he also earned a Master’s in Engineering from Stanford Univ. and an MBA from Florida Inst. of Technology; and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt Colonel in 1982 after 20 years of service, including stateside service and tours of duty in Vietnam and Cambodia. From 1982-2001, he worked in construction and design management at Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Kmart.
Harry and Anne became members of Sacred Heart Church when they moved to Pinehurst in 2004. They were both very active in volunteer work for the church, taking Holy Communion to homes and to the hospital in addition to distributing it at Mass, and they served with the RCIA program. Harry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Harry was totally devoted to his family and will be dearly missed.
