James Richard Jones, III., 92, of Pinehurst, NC passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Jim was born April 20, 1931 in Manhattan, NY, the only child of the late James R. Jones, Jr., and Catherine Benge Jones.
Jim was raised in Covington, VA and in Cleveland, OH where he settled and raised his family. He met the love of his life, Jean Mueller, while in Cleveland and followed her to Pinehurst in 1993 and became a member of Pinehurst Country Club. In 1996 he became an active member of the Tin Whistles. Jim was a friend to all. He engaged with people wherever he went and amassed true friends from every walk of life. He always had an astute mind with a memory for details that astounded his loved ones. Whether he was telling a joke or a story, he did so with vigor and tears of laughter. His genuine kindness and generosity knew no bounds.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Carr, Timothy Jones (wife Angela) and Jeff Jones; grandchildren, Allison Carr, Ryan Jones, Lea Jones, Rebecca Jones, and Lindsey Jones; great-grandchildren, Sedona, Vienna, and Hayes. Jim had another daughter by choice, Ellaine Burwell.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mary Walter Jones, and his beloved life partner of over 30 years, Jean Mueller.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, NC 28374. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to The Tin Whistle’s Scholarship Fund, 5 Dawn Rd. #1, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
