Marintha Smith Lassiter, age 94, of Vass, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 28, 2026.

A native of Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Lee Smith and Ossie Lewis Smith. Marintha moved with her family to Vass at a young age and graduated from Vass-Lakeview School. She was a member of Vass United Methodist Church and will always be remembered for her kindness and dedication to her community. An avid baker, Marintha was well known for her delicious 15 layer cakes, breads, and apple pies. She and her late husband, Bobby Lassiter, were a wonderful team—Marintha would bake, and Bobby would deliver the treats all around the county and share them at local street fairs.

In addition to her husband, Bobby, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Lassiter.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Terry, and husband Calvin of Vass; her son, Joseph Lassiter, and wife Jonice of Aberdeen; her daughter-in-law, Susan Lassiter of Seven Lakes; five grandchildren, Calvin Terry and wife Erin, Amy Spurlock and husband Kenny, Ryan Lassiter and wife Emma Kingdon, Anna Panek and husband Logan, and Emma Wittmer and husband Zach; and eight great-grandchildren.
