Norman Spencer Sherman, a resident of Southern Pines Gracious Living, died Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the age of 97.
He was born September 29, 1921, in New York City and studied at Columbia University in New York. He married Vera Smolka in 1945 in Larchmont, NY where they lived until moving to Pinehurst in 2002. Norman became active in Newcomers, Act II, Midland’s senior golf group, and as a volunteer with US Kids Golf. He remained involved in the travel industry until his death, and was proud to have traveled extensively over six continents.
Norman was predeceased by his wife, Vera, shortly before their 70th anniversary, and by his daughter Jill Sherman.
He is survived by his daughter Judy (Jack) Minsley; son-in-law Brian Borchardt; grandchildren Burke (Caron ) Minsley, Kim ( Dave ) Olsen, and Lynn Tucci; and his great-grandchildren, Evalyn and Felix Minsley, Sean Hawley, and Cassidy Olsen.
The family is honoring Norman’s wish for no funeral or memorial gathering. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Sandhills Jewish Congregation or the charity of your choice.
