Richard E. Bisbe, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great – grandfather passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 at St. Joseph of the Pines.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 15, 1925 to the late Peter and Theresa Serrats Bisbe. He was predeceased by his brother Robert.

He is survived by his wife Silvia Hasler Bisbe, daughter Deb House (Buddy) of Valdosta. GA, Donna Reed (Greg) of Millsboro, DE, son Russell Bisbe of Bluffton, SC, 8 grandchildren, 14 great – grandchildren, sister Elvira Rothermel of Lancaster, PA, sister – in – law Trudy Bisbe of Allendale, NJ, many nieces and nephews.

Volunteering in a 1943 U.S. Navy College training program and majoring in Mechanical Engineering, he was commissioned as an Ensign from Duke University in 1946. Recalled for the Korean conflict in 1951, he proudly claimed to have served over 10,000 miles on three anti-submarine destroyers.

His 39 years employment with DuPont Company included management posts at four textile fibers manufacturing sites and five years in Geneva, Switzerland, where he met his wife Silvia. It was during a post – retirement second career in management effectiveness consulting that they moved in 1990 to Pinehurst, where he started cultivating involvement in community affairs. He served on the boards of the Public Education Foundation of Moore County and the Village Heritage Foundation. While on that board, he led the 2005 initiative that financed and built the Village Arboretum entrance building, significantly increasing public usage of the landmark Arboretum. His membership in the Tin Whistles began in 2000. Dick was known to occasionally speak out on local issues, by letters in the Pilot and at meetings of the Pinehurst Village Council. The Civic group presented him with its distinguished Service Award in 2005. He was a strong believer in the importance of an informed public.

A memorial service will be held at The Village Chapel, 10 Azalea Rd., Pinehurst, NC on Friday, June 28th at 2:00 P.M. followed by a reception in Chapel Hall.
