The owner of an Aberdeen-based car restoration business was arrested Wednesday.

George Steven Fredericks, 53, was arrested by Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with chop shop activity VIN/VEH part number changed, 6 counts of chop shop activity VIN/VEH part number changed, and 7 counts of altering serial numbers, according to information from the Moore County Detention Center.

Back in September of last year, Icon Customs was shut down due to an investigation by the state Department of Motor Vehicles and Aberdeen Police Department on complaints from several Icon Customs’ customers.

Some of the filed complaints were deposits and payments were made on work that was never completed on classic cars and missing vehicles.

Icon Customs was located off N.C. 211 East in Aberdeen.

Fredericks was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a 20,000 bond.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
