Pinebluff collision sends driver to hospital

A Sunday night wreck in Pinebluff closed two lanes of traffic and sent one driver to the hospital. The crash happened around 9 p.m. on August 14 when a Nissan Sentra smashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe on U.S. 1. that had flipped after a deer ran into the road.

This was one of two wrecks to occur in Moore County within a five-minute window on Sunday night.

The collision occurred in the S Walnut Street stretch of U.S. 1, near the intersection of E Boston Avenue. Both southbound lanes of traffic were closed and rerouted while the wreckage was cleaned up, and the vehicles were towed away. First responders directed traffic around the accident on the dark stretch of highway for over an hour and a half until the scene was completely cleared.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital via EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Hyundai declined transport and remained on the scene to speak with authorities.

Responding to the scene were Pinebluff Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol. Rockwell Towing arrived on the scene to remove the Hyundai.
