Howard Maurice Harris, 54, of Carthage, a registered sex offender, was arrested by the Pinehurst Police Department Tuesday.
Officers from the Pinehurst Police Department responded to a call that Harris had been entering a business repeatedly, whistling at and heckling female employees, said Pinehurst Police Department in a news release.
Upon further investigation, the Pinehurst Police Department learned that Harris is a registered sex offender.
“Harris was arrested on-site due to the fact that he was 216 feet from a daycare facility, a violation of GS 14-208.18 which states that registered sex offenders may not be ‘within 300 feet of any location intended primarily for the use, care, or supervision of minors,'” said the department.
Harris is jailed under a $15,000 secured bond.
