Aberdeen Police are investigating a fatal accident that left two people dead and two others seriously injured in a crash on Saturday. The wreck occurred on U.S. 1, near Burger King, just before 11 p.m. Both vehicles were destroyed in the accident.
According to officials on the scene, a Kia Forte and an Infinity FX35 hit head-on in the northbound lanes. Due to the extensive damage to both vehicles, two rescue units and several ambulances and fire crews responded. Life flight was unable to fly due to the weather.
According to officials, Martin Marsh, 69, of West End, traveling in the Kia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Infinity and the driver and passenger of the Kia were taken to Moore Regional Hospital in serious condition where Theodore McRae, 60, of Southern Pines, also an occupant of the Kia, passed away at the hospital. Two of the victims had to be extricated from the vehicles by rescue crews using hydraulic tools.
Aberdeen Police roped off the crash site with yellow tape, and investigators were working to determine the cause.
This is the fifth fatality accident in 19 days Sandhills Sentinel has reported in Moore County.
