The Aberdeen Police Department is warning the public about a recent increase in “smash and grab” car break-ins.
“We’ve seen a recent increase in break-ins, smash-and-grabs, and thefts from vehicles throughout our area,” said the Aberdeen Police Department on social media on Aug. 5.
To help prevent these crimes and protect your belongings, the Aberdeen Police Department is urging everyone to take a few simple, proactive steps:
-Remove valuables from plain sight
-Never leave purses, wallets, or important items in your vehicle
-If you must leave items in your car, lock them in the trunk or keep them well hidden
“These small actions can make a big difference in reducing crimes of opportunity,” said the police department. “Let’s work together to keep our community safe!”
The department did not release where the break-ins occurred; however, a resident informed Sandhills Sentinel that her car was involved in a break-in in Southern Pines.
