Rainy-day crash traps driver in car

A rainy-day crash had rescue crews working to free one driver from their vehicle. This was one of several traffic accidents over Memorial Day weekend. It happened in Southern Pines at the intersection of 15-501 and Morganton Road just before 7 p.m.

The collision occurred between a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and a Dodge sedan. The Tacoma had significant front-end damage and was in the intersection, surrounded by debris in the roadway from the impact.

A Toyota Tacoma sustains heavy front-end damage in a two-vehicle accident in Southern Pines on May 28.

The sedan continued through the intersection and rested on an embankment near Talbots store. The sedan had extensive rear-end damage and driver’s side damage.

The sedan driver had to be freed from the vehicle by rescue crews. EMS transported the male driver to Moore Regional Hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time.

Southern Pines Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
