A teenager was airlifted after the driver of a Ford Focus reportedly fell asleep at the wheel on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials at the Eagle Springs scene. The single-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 705 near Cedar Lane Drive at 5:45 p.m.Â
A grandmother was driving the car after picking up her 17-year-old granddaughter from school when both occupants fell asleep, according to authorities. The car went off the road, hit a tree and sustained heavy damage.Â
A helicopter landed at the Eagle Springs Fire Department and flew the teenager to a trauma center. The grandmother was evaluated on scene by EMS and was transported by an ambulance to the hospital for further evaluation.Â
Responding to the scene were the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Moore County EMS, and the Eagle Springs Fire Department.
