Two injured after head-on crash in Southern Pines

A two-vehicle crash on Indiana Avenue sent both drivers to the hospital on New Year’s Day. The accident occurred near the intersection with Hyland Road in Southern Pines around 1 p.m.

According to authorities on the scene, the driver of a Subaru was heading toward town on Indiana when she came out of a curve to an Audi coming toward her in her lane.

The driver of the Audi had crossed over the center lane, and the vehicles hit almost head-on, according to officials. The drivers of both vehicles were evaluated at the scene by EMS and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities advised the accident was not believed to be due to any type of impairment by the driver.

Southern Pines Police were on the scene and investigating the accident. Indiana Avenue was shut down for an extended period.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police.
