Moore County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance outside of Carthage Friday evening. Details are still coming in at this time, but according to authorities, a suspect was shot by a Moore County Deputy. At 7:02 pm, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic call at 176 White Oak Street in Carthage. When they arrived, they were confronted by an armed male subject. The suspected pointed his weapon at one deputy, and the deputy shot him once in the leg. The injured suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was treated by Moore County EMS. The suspect was then transported to a field on Wadsworth Rd where Duke Life Flight transported the injured suspect to Duke University for treatment. The deputies were not injured according to authorities.

Following standard practice, Sheriff Godfrey has requested the SBI to conduct the investigation of the shooting incident.  The scene has been cordoned off, and the SBI has now arrived to begin their investigation.

We have a reporter on the scene, and we will update as details come in.
